Roger Loos
July 14 – October 21, 2007
Roger Loos began his work as a sculptor in the mid-1990s when he was a docent at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. He received his training at Muhlenberg College and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and his work has been shown extensively in the Bucks County area, at such venues as Phillips' Mill and Bucks County Community College. Loos works in the ancient art of stone carving, making abstract and semi-abstract sculptures that are filled with hard-edged angles and graceful curves. He uses granite, marble, and limestone, acquired from quarries in Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Indiana. Stone carving requires tremendous patience and persistence; Loos often places the stones he is going to carve in his garden, where he can see them during his daily routines. "It is the beginning of a long relationship," he says.
Outdoor sculpture program sponsored by Premier Bank.
