Fallsington Elementary School, Pennsbury School District, Fall Session, 2001, Art on the Move.

Art on the Move is a cooperative educational program offered through the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 and the Michener Art Museum. This program brings original works of art to schools in Bucks County for approximately 8-10 week exhibitions accompanied by interdisciplinary curriculum materials. This program includes a collection of artwork owned by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22. As this successful program grows, we hope to bring local art history into the lives of all the children in Bucks County.

The Michener Art Museum is pleased to announce the recent award from the Institute of Museums and Library Services to expand this program into its new phase, Art Speaks/Bucks County. This new phase will bring contemporary art and artists from the IU collection into the classroom. Out of 414 applications received by IMLS, only 158 received awards. This is the third IMLS grant for educational programs the Museum has received in four years. Visit the press room for more details about this exciting new phase.

The Bucks County Intermediate Unit Collection is comprised of artwork that has been part of a collection for over 50 years. This collection was a project begun in the 1940's by Bucks County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Charles H. Boehm and Bucks County artist Walter E. Baum, a noted Pennsylvania Impressionist painter. Baum donated over a dozen paintings and assisted Boehm in collecting local artwork for what became the "Traveling Art Gallery". The educational purpose of creating this "Traveling Art Gallery" was to expose school children to their local artists and their art heritage. These artists included Pennsylvania Impressionists who were part of the group known as the "New Hope Art Colony". This work was displayed in Bucks County schools in for many years.
