Discover and Learn, A Guide For Families
Download our Family Guide, Discover and Learn, to use during your visit. This
guide engages young children and adults in exploring the Michener Art Museum and
its galleries. Although this guide was designed for families, it can help art
lovers of any age to better understand works of art! Fill out the evaluation
form to receive one free general admission pass as a return visit to the museum!
Teaching Posters for Your Classroom
Reproductions featuring works from the Museum's permanent collection are
available for rental in your classroom. Posters can be rented up to a
three-month period, at $10/month rental rate. Materials on the artwork, the
artist, and activity sheets are available at time of rental. Please call the

Old Stones and Lost Souls: Looking Through the Jailhouse Door Curriculum Binder
A multidisciplinary unit developed for middle to high school students exploring the history of the Bucks County Prison. This unit was developed to work in conjunction with the Cell Exhibit, located in the Pfundt Sculpture Garden.
The curriculum examines topics such as:
- The history of the Bucks County Prison
- Quaker Penitence ideals: The Quaker philosophy in prison reform
- Prison Architecture: prison designs and their function
- Classification of crimes
- Social Influences on criminal activity
- Reasons crimes are committed
The binder contains:
- Timeline of Prison Architecture
- Worksheets for students
- Visuals of Bucks County Prison
- Poems written by Bucks County Prison Inmates

ACCESSARTS Educational Kits
Five educational kits developed to fit the needs of the visually impaired
student mainstreamed in the classroom. Combining audio and visual aids, these
kits introduce fives areas of the Michener Art Museum's collection. They provide
an interactive classroom experience to a group of students with a variety of
learning styles. These kits feature interdisciplinary classroom activities and
resource materials as well as pre and post visit study guides to the Museum.
These kits are to be used in conjunction with the Michener Art Museum's Explore
Through the Art Door Curriculum Binder. Please contact the education department
for availability and registration.
This project was initially supported jointly
by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, and VSA,
an international, non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational
opportunities through the arts for children and adults with disabilities.

Rental Fee $25/month, for up to 2 months. $50 security deposit due

Art Research and Reference Library
The Michener Art Museum preserves and maintains an extensive archive that
documents the work of regional artists both past and present. The library
consists of over 20,000 items including artists' biographies, exhibition
catalogues, press materials, reviews, books and videotapes. Please call

Bucks County Artists' Database Located in the Mari Sabusawa Michener Wing is a
touch-screen, interactive database that contains information about over
100 artists from all creative disciplines, both past and present in Bucks
County. This important research tool can be used by any visitor during
gallery hours.
